The monthly round-up is a little late this month; let’s blame Seasonal Affective Disorder shall we? Anyway, here’s the best stuff coming up for the last three-and-a-bit weeks of September.
Hacienda Classical @ Racecourse Live - Brighton Racecourse - 9 September
Hacienda Classical has been one of the festival success stories of recent times. 90s DJs Graham Park and Mike Pickering front a classical orchestra, playing the biggest bona-fide dance bangers of the 90s: think ‘Ride On Time’, ‘Strings Of Life’ and New Order’s dance music progenitor ‘Blue Monday’.
The Colour Run - Madeira Drive - 23 September
Dubbed the ‘happiest 5k on the planet’, the Colour Run now takes place everywhere from Sydney to Madrid to Qatar. It’s all for charity and all the runners get covered with coloured powder as they chug along the course.
Habitats - The Old Market - 1 - 10 September
Habitats will transform The Old Market into a digital forest populated by musical ‘trees’ made of steel rods and lasers which visitors physically interact with. Doing so causes the trees to swing and oscillate, creating vibrating patterns of light and sound. Mega.
Wildfire Women - Synergy Centre - 9 - 10 September
A weekend of inspiration, collaboration and many other ‘shuns’ at this networking event and showcase. Meet lots of other creative dudettes and try to lay the first stones of your own creative path.
Brighton Print Fair - Phoenix - 15 - 23 September
A celebration of all things print and printmaking, this eight day festival takes place in the Phoenix studios. It promises classic printmaking, letterpresses, posters, screen-printed gig posters and all the print ephemera that will make your walls look nice.
Vintage Brighton - Brighton Dome - 24 September
If your idea of Valhalla is a combination of Beyond Retro and Snooper’s Paradise in a concert hall, then Vintage Brighton is essential visiting.
Fabulous Flower Headdress - Dorset Bar & Kitchen - 20 September
Regular visitors to our Socials will know that we love getting Brighton artist Amy Brown, of CULT MILK, down for workshops and general creative stuff-doing. Most Wednesdays she now runs workshops at The Dorset: if you want to perfect your pom-pom headdress, this is the one.
Joel Dommett - Brighton Dome - 30 September
Handsome, funnier than he is handsome, successful, TV funnyman Joel is one of those blokes it would be really easy to hate if he wasn’t so bloody ni-
Nope, just hate him.
Mantras - Green Door Store - 30 September
If jokes told by ridiculously chiseled comedians is less your ‘thing’, but anthemic, Primal Scream-inspired rock and roll is…then you should wrap up your September with Mantras at Green Door Store. The Brighton band have just signed a record deal with XVII Music and are on the fast track to your hearts and minds.
