This week we have Shirley from Concorde Education Services under the PLATF9RM spotlight. Shirley has over 20 years’ experience in the English language teaching industry, having lived and taught in Latin America, the Middle East & North Africa, sub-Saharan Africa and the United Kingdom. She then founded Concorde Education Services, a company which specialises in collaborating with education professionals to improve language teaching around the world.
FIRST UP WHAT IS IT YOU DO?
So I'm an Education Consultant, I train teachers who are going to teach languages in Sub-Saharan Africa, the Middle East and South America.
What brought you to PLATF9RM?
The Brighton Business club back in December. I came here with another member, ended up having a tour and fell in love with the place.
IF YOU COULD ONLY EAT ONE THING FOR THE REST OF YOUR LIFE, WHAT WOULD IT BE?
Montezuma's chocolate! Or maybe Green and Blacks. I'm a bit of a chocolate snob so nothing else will do!
WHAT WAS THE LAST SONG YOU PLAYED ON REPEAT?
Oh do I have to admit this?! It was probably a Yogi Chant, I put them on when I need to respond to any emails I don't want to.
HOW DO YOU FEEL ABOUT PINEAPPLE ON PIZZA?
NAME ONE GREAT THING AND ONE NOT SO GREAT THING ABOUT LIVING IN BRIGHTON.
The great thing has to be the people and the alternative side of the city. Everyone is unique and a bit mysterious. The not so great side is the deep social divide you see here. The fact that there are always deeper reasons to why people end up homeless.
WHAT WOULD YOU SAY YOUR SPIRIT ANIMAL IS?
Definitely a Yorkshire Terrier, full of energy and a bit loopy.
FINALLY, WHAT'S THE MOST MEMORABLE PLACE YOU'VE EVER BEEN TO?
Libya - in early 2011 being invited to Colonel Gaddafi's cousins house for dinner to discuss an education research project and two weeks later being evacuated out of Libya at the onset of the civil war.
Another week, another member. Join us next time to get to know some else here at PLATF9RM a little bit better.
