PLATF9RM Presents: Movement for Mental Focus with Bare Biology

  • PLATF9RM Floor 5, Tower Point, 44 North Road Brighton (map)

Join Bare Biology founder Melanie Lawson in conversation with Olympian and performance and wellbeing coach Leon Taylor. The pair will be discussing Bare Biology’s “Better in 5”, a five-week plan to help you commit to a habit. It will cover Leon’s journey to three Olympic Games and a historic silver medal at Athens 2004, and Melanie’s decision to become a regular runner (and her recent half marathon success).

About Leon Taylor

Leon started his sporting career at the age of two. Having been diagnosed as a hyperactive child, Leon’s parents declined the drugs offered by the doctor and signed him up to every activity available where he thrived. This led to him trying multiple sports. At the age of 9 he fell in love with diving and built up to a gruelling schedule of training for up to seven hours per day!

It was after the Sydney Olympic Games that Leon lost his way and after two shoulder operations struggled to connect with the sport and fell into a depression. It took some time to find his way back, regain love for the sport and eventually feel the happiness that he originally did when diving as a child. After his comeback, he secured his silver medal in the Athens Olympics.

When Leon retired, he retrained as a yoga instructor as his passion for movement remains strong. He sees and understands the benefits of movement on mental health, having recently delivered a popular Tedx Talk on the subject. Leon is working hard to ensure that people are aware of the importance of their mental health and looking for ways to help them achieve a healthy mental state particularly through movement.

About Melanie Lawson

Melanie Lawson started her love affair with Omega 3 in 2008 when she suffered from postnatal depression. A passionate believer in health through nutrition, she intensively researched ways to improve her mental health through diet and lifestyle. Her research found that Omega 3 is one of the most critical nutrients for mental health, as well as general health. Melanie was struggling to find an Omega 3 in the UK that ticked all the boxes of purity, strength and freshness. Like many entrepreneurs, she saw a gap in the market and decided to create her own brand and launched Bare Biology in 2013. Melanie knew she had done something right when her first stockist was Liberty after taking part in their Best of British Open Call. In 2016 she won the NatWest Entrepreneurial Spark ‘Entrepreneur of the Moment’ and ‘Most Accelerated Business Award’.
