PLATF9RM Press: October Was Actually The Best

It didn’t take long to forget about that endless Indian summer, did it? Fortunately, we’re keeping the heating turned up and the hot drinks bubbling in PLATF9RM.

It was another really exciting month for us (when have we not said that…?). Here’s everything that went down in October.

TEDxBrighton Was Right On

TEDxBrighton brought out the great and the good for a day of talks at Brighton Dome, hosted by the irrepressible Sanderson Jones. PLATF9RM were the sponsors of the Founder’s Room, which featured the likes of Kim Slade (Unlost Co.) and Ryan Hanna (Sworkit) telling the story of their business adventures. We also hosted the speakers dinner the night before the event. This saw a host of familiar and not-so-familiar faces attend and provided much-needed downtime on Floor 6, with encouraging words from TEDxBrighton chief Toby Moore spurring them onto lecturing immortality.

Spooktacular Social Definitely Not Bobbins

October’s Social saw PLATF9RM members take over Hove Town Hall and it was an un-holy riot. Front of House team member George and PLATF9RM's Community Lead Jess, went head to head in an apple bob-off for Clock Tower Sanctuary (congrats to George for winning at a canter) whilst the Bloody Marys and Hallowgreen Rum Punch went down a storm. November’s Social is our BIRTHDAY Social, so expect all the bells and a surfeit of whistles.

October Best Was Actually The Best

We were thrilled to host four pop-ups from 64 Degrees as part of the October Best festival. Floor 6 looked like a winter grotto and the reaction to Michael Bremner and team’s seven-course menu was stellar. Big congrats go to The Chilli Pickle too; they won best menu for the third time. We’re already salivating about next year!

Frankie goes to Hollywood/Shanghai]

Emotions ran high as we said goodbye to FOH member, Frankie. He’s embarking on a Far Eastern escapade, as he goes to teach English in Shanghai. We’ll miss you, Frankie! Come back soon.

PLATF9RM Stages World’s Longest-titled Event™

The Things Nobody Tells You About Mergers, Acquisitions and Succession Planning definitely isn’t the snappiest-named event we’ve ever staged, but it was an evening of deep learnings for everyone there. Hosted by Tom Nixon with a talk from Bagelman chief Anthony Prior, it tackled the tricky question of how to let your business baby go whilst leaving it in the best position to thrive.

Generation Z talk made us all feel old

We staged a brilliant Generation Z event where speakers, including 18-year-old CEO and Gen Z marketing guru Brandon Relph, explored what the future workplace will be like for Generation Z. It was such an informative event that deep-dived into the expectations for a generation that grew up with Google. Key take-homes? They love working by themselves and are impatient to succeed! Watch out, world.

Check out our interview with Brandon here.

Collaboration nation

We launched our in-house brew Beer O’Clock in September. It was a huge collab between four PLATF9RM members and obviously collaboration is very much our “thing”, so we asked everyone involved how it came together. Read about that here.

And last, but by no means least…

We. Went. On-Site. At. Hove. Ground. Floor!

Listen that the sound of celestial trumpets you can hear tooting somewhere in the skies above? That can surely only mean thing: work finally began on the Ground Floor at Hove Town Hall! We’re super excited/relieved and can’t wait to open early 2019. Head here for future updates.
