The school calendar still rules in autumn, no matter how old we are. As per tradition, September brought an atmosphere of fresh starts and renewed vigour to PLATF9RM. Here’s your monthly snapshot of what we got up to.
PLATF9RM presented: Welcome to Work
Our second conference of the year was alive with those new-term vibes. A full day of talks, workshops and buzzy conversations got us all thinking about our barriers to career change or development, and seeing brand new opportunities ahead of us.
We were treated to a delicious lunch expertly crafted by our Grounds manager, Amy Moore. Taking inspiration from Think Productive’s book Work Fuel: The Productivity Ninja Guide to Nutrition, Amy served up a delicious feast full of all the nutrients we needed to make the most of the jam-packed day.
Look out for our full review of the day on the blog very soon, in which we’ll be sharing our highlights of the event.
We flexed our creative muscles at a very crafty social
This month’s social was a fun one, with Amy from CULT MILK leading us on another creative adventure – this time into the world of lino printing. Those of us that were new to the technique were delighted by that smooth first cut into the linoleum! By the end of the evening there were a whole range of weird and wonderful lino prints to admire, from William Morris inspired floral patterns to pumpkins to anime characters. As ever, it was also great to catch up with all our members over a few drinks.
We scooped TWO awards at GCUC!
We were really excited to be nominated at the Global Coworking Unconference Conference (AKA GCUC, pronounced ‘juicy’ – clever ey?) last month. You can probably imagine the reaction when we went on to win not one but TWO awards! We scooped Best Designed Coworking Space under 10,000 sq ft for the Ground Floor at Hove Town Hall, plus Best Community Programme. We’d like to extend a big congratulations to all of our members, because without you PLATF9RM wouldn’t be what it is today.
The PLATF9RM team went absolutely Ape
It had been way too long since the team got out of the office for some old school bonding, so we decided to head over to Go Ape for some treetop fun. There were five courses that saw us playing some hilarious team games, swinging between VERY tall trees, and taking on some gruelling challenges. Well done to Grace and Ozy for seeing the toughest course through not one, not two, but THREE times! We salute you.
Introducing our good friend, Technology
Don’t miss our next big event on 23rd October, PLATF9RM Presents: Our Good Friend Technology. As part of the Brighton Digital Festival, we’re exploring how technology can be a force for good in a world fraught with challenges. Local Tech For Good network founder David Scurr will be chatting with tech, media and society specialist Lizzie Hodgson about how the Tech For Good movement began, and how we can implement a larger movement away from some of the archaic tech structures that are holding us back.
