This week we spoke with John Pritchard from PALA sunglasses about desert islands, sea food sandwiches and all kinds of horse related jokes...
LET’S START AT THE VERY BEGINNING, WHAT DO YOU DO FOR WORK?
I run an ethical sunglasses business called PALA creating high quality, affordable sunnies that do good. For every pair we sell we give a pair of spectacles to outreach projects in Africa.
AND WHAT BROUGHT YOU TO PLATF9RM?
It was a chance meeting, my electrician was working here and I came to see him, I ended up doing a day pass, it all started from there!!
ON A DIFFERENT NOTE, WHATS YOUR BIGGEST FEAR?
Umm, a fear of the sun falling in and sailing off the edge of the earth...
(Just like Chicken Little)
IF YOUR HOUSE WAS ON FIRE AND YOU HAD TO SAVE ONE ITEM, WHAT WOULD IT BE?
Probably my dads watch. It got stolen last year but remarkably I managed to get it back!!
HANDS DOWN, YOUR FAVORITE PLACE IN THE WORLD?
A lot of my work takes me to Africa, I know its a big favourite place, but there are so many people and cultures to explore, I would love to go there regularly.
WHAT'S YOUR MOST EMBARRASSING MOMENT?
I'm embarrassing all the time, but it would have to be when I was younger, I was in a school orchestra, One time I had to do a do a trumpet solo, I was so nervous I could only blow air, basically just squeaky notes. I just stopped and sat down. No one knew when to start playing again, so the song followed with all the other musicians just playing random notes, chaos!!
IF YOU HAD TO EAT ONE FOOD FOR THE REST OF YOUR LIFE, WHAT WOULD IT BE?
(Keeping it simple)
YOUR BEST JOKE?
I’ve got quite a dry sense of humour, so it’s usually just in the moment that I make jokes but it would have to be - a horse walks into a bar, the barman shouts “hey”, and the horse replies “You read my mind”.
IF YOU WERE STUCK ON A DESERT ISLAND, WHAT WOULD BE THE ONE ITEM YOU WOULD BRING?
Another week, another member. Join us again next time to get to know somebody else here at PLATF9RM a little bit better.
